EUGENE, Ore. -- (Feb. 9, 2009) - Climate change is a crucial business issue that many companies are ill-prepared to address, says Andy Hoffman who will deliver a free, public lecture at the University of Oregon. The event will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Lillis Business Complex, room 282, 955 E. 13th Ave.
Hoffman is the author of the best-selling book, "Climate Change: What's Your Business Strategy (Memo to the CEO)." In the book, Hoffman advises companies to determine the carbon footprint and take steps to reduce it. He also advises companies to engage in policy decisions on the local, national and international levels.
Sponsored by the UO Center for Sustainable Business Practices in the Lundquist College of Business, the lecture will examine the sometimes conflicting roles businesses and consumers play in the environmental movement.
Hoffman is the Holcim (U.S.) Professor of Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Michigan, a position that holds joint appointments at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and the School of Natural Resources & Environment. Within this role, Andy also serves as associate director of the Frederick A. and Barbara M. Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise.
Copies of Hoffman's book will be available for purchase and he will sign copies of his book following the Eugene lecture. He will also speak for an invitation-only event at the UO in Portland's White Stag Block facility on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
