Casino-Coach wins UO Venture Quest business plan competition

EUGENE, Ore. -- (Dec. 9, 2009) -- Casino-Coach, an on-site casino gaming tutorial, won the first place award at the Graduate Venture Quest business plan competition held Friday, Dec. 4, at the Lillis Business Complex at the University of Oregon.

This year's Venture Quest competition featured seven teams of MBA, JD/MBA and Law students from the UO Charles H. Lundquist College of Business and the UO School of Law. Each team earned the opportunity to move forward into the Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship's Venture Launch program, which could lead to participation in business plan competitions at the national and international level.

Casino-Coach team members include: Moorisha Bey-Taylor, Lily Feng, Andy Jenness and Silas Olson. The team's gaming tutorial helps bring non-gaming casino guests to the gaming floor and provides an entertainment experience for customers.

The second place team, FanaTix, provides an integrated system for fan purchase, rewards and team sponsorships. The system includes integrated software and hardware for paperless ticketing, transfers, purchasing and rewards program participation. The FanaTix team members are: Eric Chylinski, Miriam Oh, Kyle Rehder and Ken Salmon.

The third place team was LumiGen, which licenses the technology to produce genetically engineered mice allowing drug testing at the cellular level. This team includes Nick Boehm, Eugene Gonzales, Elizabeth Holsapple and Yonatan Schultz. LumiGen also won the Best Written Executive Summary award.

The Graduate Venture Quest competition is part of the MBA program in innovation and entrepreneurship hosted by the Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship. Founded in 1989 as one of the earliest university centers committed to entrepreneurship, the Lundquist Center is consistently ranked as one of the top 25 programs in the U.S.
