Harvard professor to talk about 50 years of change in Intercollegiate Athletics

EUGENE, Ore. -- (April 28, 2009) - Sponsorships, multimedia rights deals, strict recruitment standards and sophisticated revenue generation have all transformed intercollegiate athletics in the past 50 years.

To discuss the impacts of the changes in college sports, Harvard Professor Stephen Greyser will speak at the University of Oregon at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 1, Lillis Business Complex, Room 132, 955 E. 13th Ave. The free, public lecture is part of Greyser's campus visit as the James H. Warsaw Sports Marketing Center Distinguished Professor in Residence.

Greyser is the Richard P. Chapman Professor of Business Administration (Marketing/Communications) Emeritus at Harvard Business School, where he specializes in brand marketing, advertising/corporate communications, sports management and nonprofit management. Since 1958, he has been active in research and teaching in marketing at Harvard Business School. His longtime association with the Harvard Business Review included five years as an editor and research director.

In addition to his extensive academic achievements, he also served as executive director of the Marketing Science Institute (MSI), a non-profit research center where he also served as a trustee and as a member of the Executive Directors Council. For his involvement, he was inducted as the charter member of MSI's Hall of Fame.

"His research expertise and his extensive sports business network provide a unique skill set that will benefit students and faculty."
