EUGENE, Ore. -- (April 29, 2009) -- In honor of the centennial of the founding of the Oregon Marching Band, a comprehensive exhibit of the band and its precursors is on display in the Knight Library at the University of Oregon.
"Sing the Story Oregon: A Century of the Oregon Marching Band," a student-produced exhibit, details the band's history, including uniforms, images, sheet music, biographies and a timeline that summarizes the major events in the life of the largest student-run organization at UO.
The exhibit includes the story behind Albert Perfect and the "Mighty Oregon" fight song, information on long-time band director John Stehn, four uniforms from the band's history, images of the band from its inception to the present, and plasma screens displaying film clips from OMB pregame and halftime performances from 2004 and 2008. It includes a brief overview of the Oregon colony of Kappa Kappa Psi, a national honorary band society, as well as information about traditions of the band, including the Oregon Marching Band Council and the Festival of the Bands.
The exhibit will run through Aug. 31, in the exhibit cases on the main floor of Knight Library, 1505 Kincaid St.
