Media credentials for Dalai Lama’s lecture on May 10

His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, will speak at the University of Oregon’s Matthew Knight Arena on Friday, May 10 at 1:30 p.m.  The University of Oregon has a limited number of seats reserved for members of the media who wish to cover this event.

Reporters seeking media credentials must submit their names and their news outlets by 12 p.m. (noon) on Friday, May 3, to Phil Weiler at pweiler@uoregon.edu

Due to the limited space available in the media tribune, only one reporter per media outlet will be allowed to apply for credentials.  Media credentials will be awarded based on the size of the outlet’s audience and at the discretion of the university.

Seats in the media tribune will be reserved for print, online and radio reporters.  See below for information regarding television coverage and photography.

Security

Each media credential will be printed with the reporter’s name and news outlet.  Photo identification will be required in order to pick up credentials on May 10.  Media credentials cannot be transferred to another person.

Security personnel will inspect all personal items brought into the arena.  No bags larger than 9” x 11” x 4” will be permitted.  (A size exception will be made for credentialed photographers.  All bags and equipment will be screened in accordance with safety procedures.)

Credentialed media should keep personal items and equipment to an absolute minimum in order to speed the security screening process.

Parking/transportation

There will be no parking available on or around the University of Oregon campus for this event.  Media are encouraged to either make use of the free bus shuttles running from Autzen Stadium or ride Lane Transit District’s EmX bus to the Agate Street Station.

The free Autzen Stadium shuttles will begin running at 11:45 a.m.  Doors will open at the Matthew Knight Arena at noon.  The shuttles will return attendees back to Autzen Stadium immediately following the event.  There will not be a late shuttle for reporters.

Television broadcast

The University of Oregon will make a live feed of the Dalai Lama’s address available to television media in the same manner that it provides a video signal for basketball games.  There will be a limited number of reserved parking spaces available for television trucks on Villard Street next to Matthew Knight Arena to allow connection to the video feed.

Due to limited space in the media tribune, there will be no seating for television reporters inside the arena.  Television stations should request a reserve parking space in order to access the video signal and arrive early to test the signal.

Photographers

Space for credentialed news photographers has been reserved at the back of the arena.  The distance from this location to the stage is approximately 110’.  Due to security procedures, photographers must remain in this area.  Photographers will not be permitted to move about the arena.  All credentialed photographers will be assigned vests and must wear those vests at all times throughout the event.
