EUGENE, Ore. -- (July 29, 2010) - The grand landscapes of Oregon and the West will be on display beginning in mid-August, when the University of Oregon's Museum of Natural and Cultural History features the photographs of Jon Meyers in its Pacific Northwest Artists Gallery.

Meyers will attend a free social event on the first evening of his show, "Solitude and Absolute Form," which will run from Aug. 19 to Oct. 31 in the museum at 1680 E. 15th Ave. The artist's meet-and-greet will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

"I shoot a wide variety of work and assignments that include regional and national advertising campaigns, editorial, lifestyle portraiture and architectural interiors and exteriors," Meyers says. "My goal from each assignment is to push myself to create something unique; to look at the mundane and make it extraordinary.

"The best time to be out photographing the world is ten minutes before sunrise or when it is raining sideways and the sun is breaking through the clouds."

Meyers' upcoming show features vivid, large-scale photographs of landscapes ranging from high deserts to cold mountain lakes.

The UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History's Pacific Northwest Artists Gallery provides a space for local photographers to showcase their work and publicly share details of the travels that brought their shows to life.

Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and youths ages 17 and under, and $8 for families (two adults and up to four youths). Museum members, university faculty and staff, and students are admitted free. Public admission is free on Wednesdays.
