Museum of Natural and Cultural History to host open house for new volunteers

EUGENE, Ore. -- (Sept. 16, 2009) -- Ever wonder what it is like to work in a museum? Find out as the Museum of Natural and Cultural History hosts an open house for potential volunteers on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the museum, 1680 E. 15th Ave.

"Volunteering your time at the museum this fall offers the opportunity to work with our current exhibits that feature music, dance and instruments from around the globe. Volunteers will learn about these themes in a series of training sessions held in October that will combine hands-on learning, lectures and discussions," said Ann Craig, assistant director of education.

Other programs offered this fall are an archaeology lecture series and a family day where volunteers will be a valuable resource for the museum. During the open house museum staff will be on hand to discuss opportunities and benefits of service and provide tours of the museum exhibits.

Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Admission is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors and youths ages 17 and under; and $8 for families (two adults and up to four youths). Museum members, university faculty and staff and students are admitted free. Admission is free for the public on Wednesdays.
