Native and nature artist demonstrate crafts during museum open house

EUGENE, Ore. -- (Nov. 9, 2009) – The annual holiday open house for Past and Presents, the Museum Store is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, and Sunday, Nov. 15. The event will take place at the University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History, 1680 E. 15th Ave. All are welcome to attend this free community event.

Visitors can warm up with hot cider and cookies as they watch and learn from native and nature artists at work beading, weaving and creating original works of art. Visitors will also be able to explore museum exhibits and photo galleries.

On Saturday, from noon to 3 p.m., Sam Henny, member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, will weave colorful baskets and sally bags. Wilma Crowe and her 12-year-old great-granddaughter Cheyenne Crowe, members of the Lakota Tribe, will demonstrate their intricate beading techniques and create necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

On Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Deb Schussler will create earrings from silver, freshwater pearl, natural stone and beads. From 1 to 3 p.m., Jan Bullock will demonstrate her skill in pine needle basketry, and from 3 to 5 p.m., Aimee Addison will craft jewelry using natural stone and freshwater pearl.
