University of Oregon to host international conference on prevention implementation

EUGENE, Ore. – (Feb. 25, 2014) – The University of Oregon Center for Equity Promotion (CEQP) will host a two-day conference, “Strong Global Communities: International Conference on Prevention Implementation,” April 28-29 in Eugene.

“Strong Global Communities” will bring together international prevention scientists, scholars, students, practitioners and community members from the education, health and social service sectors. The conference will feature keynote addresses, focused plenary sessions and research poster sessions exploring various themes.

Attendees will learn about the processes and most pressing challenges of developing and implementing family-, school- and community-based interventions for use in international contexts with vulnerable populations.

“Forty years of prevention science research and practice in the United States has led to the development of many promising evidence-based interventions,” said Charles Martinez, CEQP director. “Our next challenge is to consider how those practices might need to be adapted to be transportable in the broader cultural and global context.”

The conference’s organizers include the UO’s CEQP, the University of Washington’s Partners for our Children and the international development organization Duestche Geselleshaft fϋr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). For more information, visit education.uoregon.edu/ceqp-info
