Portland, Ore. -- (July 30, 2010) - "MADE," an exhibition featuring top design work by University of Oregon's School of Architecture and Allied Arts students, will be exhibited Aug. 5-28 in the White Box at the UO in Portland. The show is in connection with the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA) national conference, which takes place this year in Portland.
"MADE" feature the work of 24 undergraduate and graduate students from the new product design program and other areas-such as metalsmithing, furniture and ceramics-that contribute to interdisciplinary product design curriculum. Pieces range from a double work desk, to jewelry, to a pair of high-heeled ceramic shoes.
"Work selected for ‘MADE' represents some of the best pieces created by our top students in both Eugene and Portland," said Kate Wagle, director of Portland AAA programs. "The pieces demonstrate the speculative, research-oriented nature of the art department's metalsmithing and ceramics programs and of the architecture department's interior architecture furniture design studio. These are the foundations of the exceptional product design work that is the core of this creative enterprise."
The exhibition will be part of First Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 5.

The White Box is a 1,500-square-foot visual laboratory that allows students, faculty, regional and national communities to research, explore and present global issues in art and design. The White Box is located at 24 NW First Ave, on the ground floor of the White Stag Block. It is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, during the period when an exhibition is scheduled. Admission is free.
