UO Students Race for “Venture Quest” Business Plan Challenge

EUGENE, Ore. -- (May 25, 2010) -- Entrepreneurial undergraduate students at the University of Oregon will present their venture ideas and compete for cash awards at the Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship's "Venture Quest" business plan competition on Friday, June 4.

The free, public event will begin at 8:45 a.m., in rooms 211 and 212 of the Lillis Business Complex, 955 E. 13th Ave. Awards will be presented at 12:30 p.m. the same day.

The competition will feature five teams of undergraduate students majoring in business and five teams of undergraduate students minoring in business. A few examples of venture concepts include ideas based on green architectural technology, eco-fashion accessories, mobility aids and a bicycle transportation system.

In the morning of the event, each team will give a 15-minute presentation of its venture plan to a judging panel of top northwest business professionals. Following the presentation, each team will face a "live fire" 15-minute question-and-answer session, during which members must further clarify and defend their plans. Teams are judged on the viability of their ventures, the quality of their plans and presentations, and the team's ability to handle the judges' inquiries effectively.

This competition is an integral element of the Lundquist Center's vision for business education strongly supported by experiential learning opportunities. "Venture Quest" allows for the development, communication and defense of a business plan, with the experience of real world feedback from our panel of judges from the Eugene business community.
