UO invites Portland alumni and friends to help clean Willamette River bank

EUGENE, Ore. -- (Aug. 14, 2009) - Like ducks to water, the University of Oregon invites its Portland alumni and friends to help clean up a section of the Willamette River on Saturday, Aug. 22. The event-part of the 2009 Portland RiverFest-will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Eastbank Esplanade, between Morrison Bridge and OMSI.

"UO Portland alumni chapter is excited to partner with SOLV and help take care of a section of the river by cleaning up trash and debris," said Emily Boyd, assistant director for UO alumni relations. "This is a great chance for all PDX Ducks to meet up and make a big difference in a short amount of time."

Bags and gloves will be provided to volunteers. The UO will provide refreshments and giveaways. Those interested in participating are asked to register by Friday, Aug. 21. To register, contact Nicole Cooper at 503-412-0469 or nicole@uoregon.edu.

Access to the event is from the intersection of SE Water and SE Clay streets.
