Gelatin silver photographs reveal complexities in light and shadow

EUGENE, Ore. -- (July 21, 2009) - After
retiring from a career in music, Bob Sanov moved to Florence, Ore. and began
using photography to explore the nuances of light and shadow. An exhibit of his
work, "Coastal Light," will be displayed at the Museum of Natural and
Cultural History through Nov. 1.

A free artist reception is from 5 to
6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31 in the Northwest Artist Gallery in the museum,
1680 E. 15th Ave.

Sanov was struck by the expressive
power of photography at an Ansel Adams exhibition in the 1970's. He now creates
gelatin silver photographs using traditional darkroom methods to reveal
complexities in light and shadow.

Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesdays through Sundays. Admission is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors and
youths ages 17 and under and $8 for families (two adults and up to four
youths). Museum members, university faculty and staff and students are admitted
free. Admission is free for the public on Wednesdays.
