EUGENE, Ore. -- (March 18, 2009) -- Igor Irtenev, one of Russia's best-known modern poets, will read passages from his new book at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, in Willamette Hall, Room 110, 1371 E. 13th Ave. Admission is free and open to the public.

Irtenev will read his poems in Russian with PowerPoint translation slides.

A winner of Russia's Golden Pen and Golden Ostap awards for his writing and television work, Irtenev has authored 15 books of poetry. His work appears in "Contemporary Russian Poetry: An Anthology." Irtenev is a member of the Russian political opposition and his writing is known to be politically charged.

The reading is sponsored by the UO Libraries' Diversity Committee and the Russian and East European Studies Center.
