UO Homecoming and Family Weekend 2009 offers events for the community

EUGENE, Ore. - (Nov. 9, 2009) - To celebrate the 2009 Homecoming and Family Weekend, the UO Alumni Association and the Office of Family Programs have a week-long schedule of events and activities scheduled. Beginning Nov. 9, the celebration will continue through Sunday, Nov. 16, with the theme, "There's No Place Like Home."

Events include door decorating and hot dog eating contests, painting of the "O" on Skinner's Butte, campus neighborhood clean-ups, chamber music performances, a Career Center open house, Parent and Family Association reception, Veterans Day activities and the second year of the pep rally and parade through campus.

"We are very excited about this year's line-up of homecoming activities and events," said Amber Garrison, director of family programs. "In addition to the parade, pep rally and football game, we have a large number of service-oriented, musical and tradition-based activities for students, faculty and members of the community."

Monday, Nov. 9
1 to 4 p.m.: Takin' it to the Streets student neighborhood day of service projects in the three adjacent campus neighborhoods.

Tuesday, Nov. 10
8 to 10 p.m.: Music of Villa-Lobos, Beall Concert Hall, faculty artist series featuring Alexandre Dossin, the Oregon String Quartet, bassoonist Steve Vacchi and bassist Tyler Abbott. Tickets are $10 and $8.

Wednesday, Nov. 11
11 to 11:50 a.m.: Veterans Day ceremony, EMU ballroom
Noon to 1:30 p.m.: Student Alumni Association's Painting of the "O" on Skinner's Butte

Friday, Nov. 13
3:45 p.m.: Pep rally and parade, EMU Amphitheater (See map of parade route here)

Saturday, Nov. 14
5 p.m.: Official Homecoming and Family Weekend Tailgate party, Mallard Park
7:20 p.m.: ASU vs. UO, Autzen Stadium

Sunday, Nov. 15
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Celebration Brunch, Carson dining facility
