As this chart shows, Hitler's accession to power in 1933 coincided with a brief increase in both the numbers of marriages and live births. But these data also show that the regimes efforts to increase the birthrate were at best partially successful: the number of live births per thousand inhabitants remained flat after 1934, and the number of marriages declined in both absolute and relative numbers.
