R/V Marcus G. Langseth tied up at Pier 1, Astoria, Oregon

Members of the UO (Toomey, Hooft, Durant, Araragi, Wells, Price) and UW (Wilcock, Weekly, Soule) science parties arrive during the evening at the Dunes Hotel, Astoria Oregon.   Canadian clearance form has not arrived; these include the diplomatic clearance, the Canadian DFO clearance (the SARA permit) and the IHA.  It is normal for these to arrive within a few days of sailing; however, with the court action pending there is considerable uncertainty

1835LT receive an e-mail from G.M. Purdy indicating that:

1. A two hour hearing will take place in Vancouver on Thursday, August 20, 2009 on the sole issue of whether the court has jurisdiction under section 18 of the Federal Court Act to issue an injunction against a private party,

2. If the court does have jurisdiction, the injunction application would have to be heard at a later date, probably Monday August 24, 2009 in Vancouver.

Rex Dalton’s article in Nature appears; there are also numerous articles and blogs. These will be archived by Ruth Price.
