Daily Report from Anthony Johnson

Steady progress is being made on the deployment of OBSs.  As of 1900 PDT a total off 44 instruments have been deployed, averaging about 1 per hour including transit time.  The early part of the morning had considerable swell and some hefty rolls.  As the day proceeded the seas calmed and the skies cleared.  For much of the day visibility was adequate to clear 8 km.  MMOs report no whales, a few Dahl’s dolphins and a sun fish.

The plan is to complete OBS deployments by mid-afternoon tomorrow.  Provided the sea state is acceptable we will deploy the airguns.  The first deployment usually takes about 7 hours.  Latter deployments will take much less time, approximately two hours.

Late on Wednesday we are expecting gale force and possibly storm force winds.  If the sea state gets too high, we will not be able to keep the airguns in the water, in which case we will use some of our contingency time.

Anthony and David Martinson have been preparing the parameters for the shoot.
