Cover Letter

As described in the accompanying pages, we propose to build a educational/research environment for the geological sciences and to test aspects of that environment in a lab course in the Fall of 99. The current UofO personnel participating in the project include

Douglas Toomey

Janice Cuny Jan's research interests lie in the design of domain-specific programming environments. She will oversee the software development on this project.

Timothy Sheehan Tim is a software engineer currently working part-time on the development of TIERRA. He will work with the proposed new programmer on developing its classroom adaptation.

Timur Insepov Timur will be an undergraduate in the CIS department next fall. Starting this summer, he will work on visualization scripts for TIERRA. Some of his work will be targeted to VRV-ET.

Each participant is a member of the Computational Science Institute. The latter will provide some machine resources for this project. In particular, it will provide the machines and data storage needed for development and possibly (to the extent possible) for running TIERRA.
