the facade study dealt with material
use, window locations, roof forms, and
other elements that combined
make up the west facade.
two areas of concentration were
the entrance, and the newly added reading niches.
attention was brought to the
entrance in several ways.
first is the gate that announces
the entry as well as providing a transition.
second are the triangular windows
in the shape of a diamond.
the center of the diamond again
brings attention to the entry.
while deciding how to treat
the reading niches, there was
experimentation with gabled
and flat roof forms.
the final solution was to use
flat roofs that joined the gable.
having the niches pop up from
the gable brought
them more attention.
