How can you not love natural history?

What's an interest in natural history really all about?
Here's an example: Twilight descended quietly and longtime ENHS member, Marge Zane, walked serenely outside by the pond, sighed and breathed in the dew-laden air from the meadow, nodded to the juncoes still feeding and relished her oneness with the earth. But it was quiet. Too quiet. Marge likes company in the early evening. So, what else does a natural history lover do who lives alone? She calls to her friends:
(Remember, there hasn't been a sound.) Marge, "Vribbit, vribbitt."
Almost immediately, from the pond: "Vribbit, vribbitt."
And faster, Marge: "Vribbit."
And faster from the pond: "Vribbit."
And even faster, Marge: "Vribbit."
And almost simultaneously from the pond: "Vribbit, Vribbit."
How can you not love natural history?
