December 21, Sunday, 10 - 11:30 a.m. Winter Solstice Nature Reading. Gather for readings from your favorite naturalists. Hot Cider is served. $2 donation requested. At the Visitor Center, Mount Pisgah Arboretum, Howard Buford Recreation Area. FMI: 747-1504.

December 21, Sunday, 12 noon - 2 pm. Winter Solstice Nature Walk in Alton Baker Park, sponsored by Nearby Nature. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by adult. Rain or shine. Free. Meet at the north end of the Autzen Footbridge. FMI: 687-9699.

December 28, Saturday, 10 am - 1 pm. Nearby Nature's Alton Baker Park Action Project: Work Party. Turn up in work clothes and boots (good for rain if necessary); bring tools for native plant restoration, erosion control, trail crew, and litter patrol. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by adult. Meet at the north end of the Autzen Footbridge. FMI: 687-9699.
