March 16, Tuesday, 7:30 pm? [unknown time] The Many Rivers Chapter, Sierra Club, will present a program on the status of the regional salmon recovery effort, with emphasis on the potential removal of hydroelectric dams in the Snake and Columbia river systems. Speakers from the Northwest Power Planning Council and Save Our Wild Salmon will provide independent viewpoints. The meeting is free to the public, and will be at the Roosevelt Middle School cafeteria, 24th and Hilyard, Eugene. For more information, call 485-8285.

March 23, Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. Scott Baker speaks at the monthly meeting of the Lane County Audubon Society. His topic is "Grasshopper diet causing hawk death," referring to his studies of catastrophic poisoning of Swainson's Hawks in South America as a result of agricultural pesticide use against the grasshoppers. The meeting is free open to the public and is preceded with a time to examine environmentally centered materials and visit with people. Coffee and cookies are also served. The location is 1645 High Street (opposite the Planned Parenthood Office).

April 10, Saturday, 9:30 a.m. Volunteer Work Party at the Willow Creek Nature Preserve. Meets every second Saturday of the month at the turnout on the north side of West 18th , 1/4 mi west of Bertelsen Road in Eugene. Bring work gloves and loppers, clippers, or a hand saw if you have them available. Call Ed Alverson at 682-5586 for more info.
