Whether you love astronomy, the constellations, or just holding hands close to heaven, don't forget about the Pine Mountain Observatory, east of Bend, away from the madding lights of town. It's a great destination for Friday or Saturday night enlightenment. You can camp nearby or stay in Bend; take in the High Desert Museum as well--and the kids will enjoy both. You need to remember to dress warmly for the observatory and offer a $3 donation per person, possibly the best experience for the dollar around. The observatory has an incredible website with a virtual tour of the night sky--you're looking through the camera real time. You'll find all the information you need for visiting on the website, but they happily also accept phone calls: 541-683-1381 |
Saturday, August 9, Late Summer Butterflies at Blair Meadows. Meet at the Campbell Senior Center parking lot, 9:00 AM. Limited to 15 participants (because we're going to eat huckleberries); pre-registration required. To pre-register, call Neil Björklund at 541-344-2053. |
