October 16; Thursday; 7pm. Meeting of the Oregon Herpetological Society. Guest speaker is Richard Richie, who will give a presentation on Venomous Snakes. Specimens on hand for viewing. Springfield High School Cafeteria, 875 N 7th St; cafeteria near corner of Centennial & 7th.

October 22-25; Wednesday-Saturday. Bird Tour around the Olympic Peninsula, led by Herb Wisner. Please call Herb soon if you are interested: 344-3634.

October 26; Sunday; 10am-4pm. Mt. Pisgah Arboretum's annual Mushroom Show&Plant Sale. See the announcement in the box on page 4.

October 27; Monday; 7:30. Monthly meeting of the Emerald Chapter, Native Plant Society of Oregon. Barbara Wilson, member of the Carex Working Group at O.S.U., will tell us "More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Oregon Fescues." Room 110 Science Building, LCC. Free!

October 28, Tuesday, 7:30. Monthly Audubon Meeting: Wetlands from a Botanical View by Jennifer Guard, author of a book on wetland plants. The meeeting begins with refreshments and reports of bird sightings, program at 8 pm, at the Eugene Garden Club, 1645 High St. Free to the public.

November 1, Saturday, 10am-3pm. High Desert Museum's third annual Bat Day: games, videos, bat treats, and live bats. Halloween costumes encouraged. 3.5 mi south of Bend on U.S. 97. An admission fee is charged; children under 4 are free.
