Assignments
The course grade will be based on completion of the following requirements:
- 1 take-home mid-term examination. Receive examination in class on Feb. 6 (Thursday). Examination due in class on Feb. 11 (Tuesday).
- 1 final examination, Tuesday, March 18, 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The examination will be based on all presentations in class and all assigned readings for the entire term. The format of the examination will be both essay and short answer. A review guide for the examination will be distributed no later than one week prior to the exam date.
- 1 short paper, of 5-8 pages (12-point type, double-spaced), or 1500-2400 words,on a topic within one specified area- economic policy, social policy, or external relations- and using original sources ("documents") Due date depends on topic area.
- 1 research paper of 10-12 pages (12- point type, double-spaced pages), or 3000-3600 words on a topic of a student's choice pertaining to the subject of this course. Due March 13 (Thursday).
Course Grade
The grade for the course will be determined as follows:
- short paper 20%
- research paper: 30%
- Mid-term examination: 20%
- Final examination: 30%
Evidence of persistent and high quality contribution to class discussions will also be considered in the determination of the course grade.
