IMPROVED PROSCENIUM THEATER

Problem: The current proscenium theater, Robinson Theatre, has been the venue of many successful productions, but nearly every production has to work to overcome major obstacles:

• Not all of the audience can hear
• Most of the audience is uncomfortably hot in warm weather
• Not all of the audience has a clear view of the stage

Discussion:

Solution: There are three major improvements to consider for the Robinson Theatre (plus many minor ones that aren't listed here):

• Provide thermal comfort, especially cooling
• Improve the natural acoustics so that a normal speaking voice can be heard throughout the house
• Improve the sight lines in the rear third of the house, perhaps by making the rake of the floor steeper
