Publishing websites onto the SHELL.UOREGON.EDU server:
Change your Connection Settings to use Secure FTP (Site... Publish Server... Settings, select the Shell setting that we created last night, Edit it, click the Advanced button, select SFTP (Secure FTP) in the Advanced FTP Options window , and click OK. You only need to do this once! Once you have done it the problem with folder permissions and resetting FTP Access should go away.... hopefully forever... or at least for a very long time.
GoLive CS1 does not work well over a wireless connection. This is a known issue. If you use CS1, you need an Ethernet cable connection when publishing to the web server.
GoLive CS1 will continue to be supported for
web publishing through the end of the school year. However, after that point, it can be
used for authoring but not for uploading because lacks Secure FTP. When support drops, you will need to
use one of the free FTP publishing tools (FileZilla, Fugu) available on the
Duckware CD or web site: http://micro.uoregon.edu/duckware/. Or you can upgrade your GoLive – CS 3 should
be out by mid-2007.
3. File Permissions – We believe the problem of files being invisible due to file
permission problems is now fixed. You
should be able to update content and NOT have to worry about folder
permissions. Just in case…
If you
have uploaded files and get an error in the browswer about file permissions,
look at the files with the GoLive Site window. In the right Publish Server
window showing the contents of your "shell.uoregon.edu" account, see
the "Locked" column next to the folder and folders Names which shows
a code about author, group and all permissions. If permissions are NOT "rwx r-x r-x" or "rwx
r-r-", that is, readable by all, then you should select the
"arch610" folder and use the Inspector Palette's FTP Access tab to
check Read and Execute for Other, Recursive, and Apply Settings.
4. Working on another computer.
If you created your website on a lab computer, you DO NOT need to start
over when you are working on a different computer. You can use the files that
you have already published and copy them to any other computer using
GoLive. You will need to recreate the
GoLive .site file
On the
target computer where you want to work:
1) Start
GoLive (these steps are for CS2... CS1 is at the bottom of the page).
2) Select
New... Site... Create Site... Site from Existing Content (same steps as in lab)
3) Now
select "by Downloading Files from a Remote Server" (this step is different)
4) On the
"Select a Server for File Download" page , change "Type of
Server" to FTP, and enter the same connection information that we used in
lab:
Nick Name:
shell.uoregon
Server:
shell.uoregon.edu
Directory:
public_html/arch610
Username:
<your email name>
Password:
<your email password>
If you're
on CS2, click Advanced and select SFTP.
5) On the
"Specify Site Name and Location" page, for name use
"arch610", for location use something like "My Documents... My
Web Sites".
6) Golive
downloads everything from your web site to your computer much like the
upload
process in lab.
The end
result is much like we did in lab.
However, the folders on your PC are a little different. Instead of
"My Documents... My Web Sites... arch610", your files are located in
"My Documents... My Web Sites... arch610... web-content". The controlling site file (the one you can
open in GoLive) is located in "My Documents... My Web Sites... arch610"
and is named "arch610.site"
The
process on CS1 will be a little different...
2) Select
File...New Site... Single User...
3) Import
Server...
4)
FTP...Enter connection information (as above)
5) Specify
destination location similar to above. Under Naming the New Site...
use"arch610"
6) Copy
process is similar to above.

(In case
this has scared you, yes, you can also use Dreamweaver or another program.)
