Instructions for scoring scales representing five dimensions

Instructions for scoring 20 item-pairs

Why score item-pairs?
Questionnaire items in the 'social attitude' domain are particularly prone to be affected by individual differences in scale usage, notably, acquiescent responding (yea-saying vs. nay-saying tendency). Item-pairs consisting of one forward- and one reverse-keyed item, thus balanced as almost all these pairs are, remove most effects of differences in acquiescence, and so produce more clearly interpretable 'downstream' results in multivariate analyses.
