| PROJECT PHASES: Three phases each worth 30 Points (15% of the overall grade for this part of the course). PROJECT 3.1 TELL A LIGHT TALE: A mini-case study assessing the overall lighting quality and electric lighting conditions of a functional space. This evaluation could either confirm how the existing lighting system provided for good quality lighting or how it could be improved to achieve such quality. This includes data collection and analysis of the lighting system as well as the occupants’ response and recommendations for its re-design. Your evaluation will be the basis of a design statement and a conceptual Schematic Design for the that space to achieve a better quality of lighting. PROJECT 3.2 ILLUMINATION AND FABRICATION: A prototype design for an electric lighting luminaire. This luminaire will be a component of the lighting design schematic design each team has suggested in phase 1 of the project. The luminaire could be designed to provide ambient lighting conditions or to provide task or accent lighting to the existing space to be re-designed. Using the Lumen method each team will calculate the number of luminaries needed for the space, design their distribution, and provide a specification sheet describing the photometric of the luminaire. PROJECT 3.3 LISTENING TO SPACES: This will include an evaluation of the existing acoustical conditions of the space under design and a written design statement for its re-design, if needed. |
