Joe Caggiano: The Website

Hi! my name is Joe. Thanks for visiting my website! I'm a first-year graduate student in the Earth Sciences department at the University of Oregon. My advisor is Dr. Carol Paty, and my research interests are in Planetary Science, Space Physics, and Geophysics.

Research

Pole Reversals

I am modeling plasma motion in Earth's magnetic field as the polarity of the field is in the process of reversing. I am also researching consequences of these magnetic field changes on humanity.

Venus

I am interested in researching the presence of volcanism on Venus, despite the low temperature gradient and lack of tectonic activity.

CO₂ Reduction

I am interested in researching low-concentration and high-concentration CO₂ sequestration/reduction techniques. This would have applications for combating CO₂ proliferation in Earth's atmosphere, and for potentially terraforming planets with mostly Carbon Dioxide atmospheres.

Explore Strange New Worlds

I am interested in combining modeling and observations to predict the habitability of exoplanets. This will become a more relevant topic when(if) the James Webb Space Telescope becomes operational.
