Welcome! My name is Jesse Cohen and I am a second year mathematics Ph.D student at the University of Oregon. I am primarily interested in topology: in lay terms, this is the study of properties of shapes that remain unchanged when you bend, twist, stretch, or otherwise continuously deform them without cutting them, poking holes in them, or gluing them together. I am also strongly invested in fostering gender equity, disability access, and LGBTQIA+ representation in mathematics and allied fields of study.
Prior to moving to Eugene, I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and completed my undergraduate degree at UCLA and my master's degree at UC Riverside, in Riverside, California. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading, cycling, playing music, and nature photography. Some examples of my art may be found under their respective headings in the "Art" tab above as well as in the panoramas at the top of each page. Though I am by no means an expert, I also enjoy learning how to use LaTeX to produce aesthetically pleasing mathematics and figures and some of my more interesting examples may be found on the page titled LaTeX.
