Example Results: Comparing One Group with Another

One of the first questions a consumer may ask is, “How does the performance of students at my school compare with the performance of students in a similar group?” For instance, one might want to compare performance of students in one school with those in a nearby school that serves students with very similar background characteristics but uses a different curriculum. Or one might want to compare scores of students in one district with those in a nearby district. A wise consumer would want to know if any differences were large enough to be educationally important.
