Jonathan Smith came to Eugene three years ago to get a taste of life in the West. Thirty years old, and having spent most of his life in Rochester, N.Y., he felt it was a good time to make a change. He had some relatives in Eugene and was considering enrolling in the University of Oregon's Ph.D. program in philosophy, a subject he had studied as an undergraduate. However, Jonathan decided to become an artist instead. He has been an avid photographer since the age of 20, when he used his birthday money to buy a camera. Ten years later, Jonathan realized that he wanted a way to express his ideas artistically, rather than as he put it, write a "50-page thesis that nobody wants to pick up and read." |
