William B. Boyd


William Beaty Boyd was the University of Oregon's 12th President. He took office July 1, 1975.

President Boyd was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Mount Pleasant, SC. He holds degrees from: Presbyterian College, Clinton, SC; Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia; and the University of Pennsylvania.

Among the positions held by President Boyd prior to coming to the U of O, he served as president at Central Michigan University, Vice-Chancellor at the UC Berkeley and as dean of faculty at Alma College.

President Boyd is credited with reorganizing the central administration of the university by placing the day-to-day academic operations onto provost Paul Olum, who later became the university's 13th president.
