(1) While "Go Webfoots" certainly could have appeared in 1920s shop windows or popped up in personal correspondence, I haven't been able to unearth any evidence that it did. (Translation: I didn't come across a single "Go Webfoots!" in a recent, admittedly unscientific, scan of archived Register-Guard and Oregon Daily Emerald issues from 1898 to about 1937.) I invite a more dedicated devotee of content analysis (or UO sports history) to prove me wrong. Back to "Go Ducks" (2) More information about Puddles, the Ducks and the Webfoot(er)s can be found at the University athletic department's official web site, whose URL is -- what else? -- www.goducks.com. Back to "Go Ducks" (3) About a third of the ads in both papers' sections that year included "Go Ducks." No ads in previous years' previews did. Is that sufficient proof? I hope so.
