Click on the highlighted words below to see V and I band images of dwarf spiral galaxies. These galaxies were discovered as part of a larger survey of gas-rich field dwarfs by Jim Schombert, Rachel Pildis, Jo Ann Eder, and Gus Oemler. The galaxies were found on the POSS-II plates, then imaged in V and I with the 2.4m Hiltner Telescope at MDM Observatory and measured in HI using the 305m Arecibo telescope. The HI observations confirm that these galaxies are gas-rich and rotating.
A paper discussing these objects appeared in The Astronomical Journal, November 1995. Click here for a postscript verison of the paper.
Just how small are these galaxies? Here's a good comparison.
