Derivatives
All
scans are saved as TIF files for quality and flexibility. However, TIF files
are very large and unwieldy, require a plug-in to be used in a web interface,
and are inappropriate for classroom use. Therefore, we create derivative JPGs
for delivering to requestors and uploading into the public Art & Architecture Images collection. In order to minimize the risk of mistakes and
variation, we use the Image Processor Script in Photoshop with standard
settings, which SHOULD remain in the dialog from the last scanning session. Double check the settings each time you
run the script.
A. Open Photoshop
B. File > Scripts
> Image Processor
C. Under “Select the
images to process”, choose the “Temporary folder for tifs” folder on the hard
drive, where you saved the TIFs during scanning
D. Under “Select
location to save processed images”, choose the “Temporary folder for jpegs”
folder on the hard drive
E. Under File Type, make
sure:
a. Save as JPEG is
checked
b. Quality is 12
c. Resize to Fit is
checked
d. W: and H: under Resize
both say 1024px
F. Under “Preferences”
Include ICC Profile should be checked
G. NO OTHER options
should be active
H. Click Run
a. Photoshop will open,
resize and save each image. This may take several minutes. When it is done,
Photoshop will be available to further imaging work and the “Temporary folder
for jpegs” will contain one JPG for each TIF
