Cromwellian

1. Oak gate-leg table and box stools. Note that the gate-leg table has drop leaves so that it folds to economize on space in the smaller house. The box stools serve two functions: seating and storage. Much Cromwellian furniture was designed to make efficient use of space and materials in the hard economic times of the period.

2. Oak table settle. This piece serves both as a settee (or settle) and as a table.

3. Oak chair with hide seat and back. Note the abundance of stretchers that make this a very durable chair.
