About This Print
Rooftops of one of the stately neighborhoods in Kyoto. If we need a hint that this view is of Kyoto roofs, the copula on the left carries the characters 西陣, telling us these roofs are in Kyoto's famous Nishijin district, known for its townhouses, machiya, and traditional weaving and textiles.
A number of modern woodblock artists have portrayed these lovely tiled roofs and Konishi's print is one of my favorites.
