IHL Cat. #2019

About This Print

Fujimori, a founding member of the Nihon Hanga Kyōkai (Japan Print Association) in 1931, contributed this print of a cricket on a branch to the 2601 calendar issued by the JPA.  2601, counting since the mythical beginning of Japan in 660 BCE, translates to 1941, a year that would find Japan attacking Pearl Harbor in December.

The JPA calendars were issued from Showa 11 (1936) through Showa 19 (1944).
