About This Work
Likely gouache or acrylic on a heavy paper. The paper may have first been colored with sumi, similar to how Ono treats his much thinner paper used for his prints. The verso of this work is shown below. Remnants of a light tissue paper still adhere to the top of the verso. A tissue paper with the work's name and date of creation may have originally been attached as with the artist's prints. In 1959, Ono also created a woodblock print of this work, as shown below.
小野忠重 Tadashige Ono, 1959, 家 House
edition 50 12.5×16 cm(image size)
In the late 1950s, cats (like the one in this work), birds and the occasional dog began to appear in Ono's prints.
