About This Print

The Kasumigaseki (gate of mist) district in Tokyo is the area where the Meiji government chose to build its government.  In the early 1940s, when this print was created, it would have been a bustling, densely packed area, so this sparsely populated image, showing only a single building complex and two cars in the background, is a bit of a surprise even during a heavy evening snow.

This collection's print is a publisher's proof print that contains notes as to changes to be incorporated on the released print.

Differences between the two images are subtle, except for the repositioning of the print's title, Tokuriki's signature and the publisher's seal from the lower right on the proof to the upper right on the released print. The gray border surrounding the image on the released print is not present on the proof print.
Several of the editing marks on the proof seem to indicate a desire for minor color changes.
