About This Print

Though the print itself is untitled, the auction house Artelino titled this print Kyoto Town Hall in Snow.

A partially obscured yellow street sign provides both the speed limit and a splash of color in this atmospheric winter scene.  Judging from its shape, the building in the far distance, beyond the tiny figures and cars, is, in fact, Kyoto city hall. Built in 1927, this imposing building takes up one block on the corner of Kawaramachi-dōri and Oike-dōri.
