While in exile on the island of Sado, Mibu no Suketomo hasbeen placed in charge of Homma no Saburō. He has now received a strict order from the authorities in Kamakura thatSuketomoe is to be executed immediately, but just before he dies he is able tosay farewell to his son Umewaka who arrives from Kyōto with the priestSotsu. Umewaka sees Homma as the causeof his father’s death and with the help of Sotsu, revenges his father bykilling him. When they go to escape fromthe island, however, the boatman refuses to put in to shore for them toboard. In answer to the priest’sprayers, a god from Kumano appears and causes a wind to blow the shipback. He then give the boat a followingwind so that they are able to escape from their pursuers and return to Kyōto.
