The Play - Obasute
Source: A Guide to No, P.G. O'Neill, Hinoki Shoten, 1929, p. 128.A man from the capital goes with two companions to view the autumn moon at a place called Obasute-yama ‘The Hill of the Old Forsaken Woman’, and there meets a woman who talks with him. Just before she disappears, she discloses that she is in fact the old woman who was left there long ago and thus gave the mountain its name. She later appears in her true form and after telling of the blessings that come with the teachings of the Buddha, dances in the moonlight.
