About This Print
One of 200 prints issued as part of the series Nōga taikan (Encyclopedia of Noh Plays), it depicts a scene from the play Seiōbo, by an unknown playwright but traditionally attributed to Konparu Zenchiku ( (1405-c. 1470), in which Seiōbo presents a magical peach to the Emperor.For more information on this series see bio for the artist Tsukioka Kōgyo (1869-1927) and scroll down.

Extolling the benevolent government of the Emperor, Sei-ōbo (Hsi Wang Mu) comes down from Heaven and presents him with a miraculous peach. It comes from a tree which blooms and fruits only once every three thousand years, and brings long life to whoever eats it. She then dances in honour of the reign of the Emperor.
