Q: How can I listen to KWVA?

A: KWVA broadcasts live 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. If you are in the Eugene/Springfield area you should be able to receive the signal at 88.1 on your FM radio dial. Anyone can listen live over the internet. We have an MP3 stream here (pls format or m3u format) and also a Real Audio stream. For the MP3 stream, we recommend Winamp, iTunes, or your MP3 player of choice. For the RealAudio stream you need the RealOne Player or you can also try out the Media Player Classic.

Q: What is the format?

A: KWVA plays everything! Or just about, we strive to play things that you do not hear elsewhere. Our DJs have an eclectic taste and our programs vary from one extreme to the other. Our primary format is musical, but we also play news every weeknight and talk shows almost every day. Take a look at our program schedule for more specifics.

Q: Does KWVA play just music?

A: No. We have three talk shows: Anarchy Hour on Tuesdays, Left Out on Wednesdays, Inform Radio on Fridays and Quack Smack on Fridays. We also air news twice a day: Democracy Now! Monday-Friday 7am-8am and Free Speech Radio News Monday-Friday 6pm-6:30pm (followed by campus produced news 6:30pm-7pm. See the schedule for more details.

Q: Is KWVA a student radio station?

A: Yes! KWVA is student owned and operated. We are owned by the
Associated Students of the University of Oregon. Community
members are also welcome to participate in station staff and DJ positions.

Q: Why am I receiving an error message when I try to pull
up the KWVA Real Player webcast?

A: KWVA uses the University of Oregon network to broadcast
on-line, periodically the university computer system reboots and stops the
stream. We try to catch the problem immediately. If you run across this
problem, email the Chief Engineer.

Q: Who are the DJs?

A: KWVA DJs are students and community members in the Eugene/Springfield area.

Q: How do I become a DJ?

A: Just stop by the station, or call, and pick up an application.

Q: Are there real DJs or computers playing the music?

A: Real people all the way...KWVA DJs produce all their shows live,
even in the middle of the night.

Q: Do DJs get paid?

A: No. DJ positions are volunteer positions only.

Q: Who keeps KWVA operating?

A: There are two groups that keep KWVA on the air, one is the DJs and the
other are the Senior Staff members. For more information about staff
members, click on the Staff link.

Q: Do you have to be a student to be on KWVA?

A: No. KWVA is open to students and community members alike. Students
are given preference because it is a student-owned station.
