Even though The Strokes have been totally hyped-up (in fact, last night I was flipping through the channels and there, *there* in some Virgin Records megastore was a Strokes poster plastered like cheap date... to a... I don't know what I was trying to do with that sentence... but there it was on the pillar and IN FRONT of the camera), and so well marketed, and distributed, and expertly peddled through the hoops, rings, and muscles of the music's industry terminal maw - that who can take their success without slanting a knowing eye, elbowing a friend with, "Yeah, sure they'll make it... Julian's dad is FILTHY F'ing RICH! And four of the five went to some elite private school in the East Village together. Friggin snobs! They'll never have to work their way up like the rest of us poor slobs...
where was I?
Even though The Strokes have been totally hyped-up, their debut, "Is This It" totally, and completely, rocks. This is a solid album through and through. Through Minnesota winters and long rides in the freezing rain in the back of pickup trucks - even through that. In fact, I've been playing it non-stop for the past week. Why? Because it's just so darn good. Other reasons I cannot stop listening to this album:
So yeah, there it is. And after I get sick of this cd (not for awhile, I'm betting), I'll reacquaint myself with the new White Stripes album whose introductory/first impression period with me was aborted due to the spontaneous and overwhelming discovery of "Is This It."
