In grad school I entrusted 2 DGS and a department head with reports of abusive behavior I had experienced. The first DGS told me that everyone knew *that person* was like that with women students and that they were also known for retaliation so I should just keep my head down.

The second DGS told me they found the notes from my meeting with the first DGS and destroyed those notes for my protection.

The third person told me stories of abuse they had endured in graduate school and of the personal and professional costs they had experienced seeking accountability. It was a cautionary tale.
